The Alliance—a Forum of Indiana Business Leaders

A group of mid-size company leaders and faculty from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University formed the Alliance in 1990.  The organization remains affiliated with the Indiana University Kelley School of Business at Indianapolis.

We are a membership group of about 40 experienced senior decision-makers in privately held, mid-size companies in Indiana.  Members come from companies with annual revenues from several million to $300 million.

Our mission is to assist member companies improve performance by providing networking opportunities with other senior executives and presenting new leadership ideas for members to consider.

Alliance members talk about the value of their membership:

Mark Gerkin, President, The AME Group, Vincennes, IN

“The Alliance allows Indiana business leaders to come together to share ideas and concerns.  We use each other as consultants.  The meetings are a great way to connect with others who have gone through similar situations.”

Chuck Himes,  CEO, Waste-Away Group LTD, Elkhart, IN

“I have been a member of the Alliance since 1992.  You may wonder why…well, it is because my membership continues to bring value to my company and me.  The content of the meetings is always fresh and relevant to me as a CEO.”

Bill Rush, Owner, The DeHayes Group, Fort Wayne, IN

“The opportunity to meet with other business owners and discuss current issues that affect the decisions we make in running our businesses, coupled with the information resources provided by the IU Kelley School of Business is invaluable.  I was able to put ideas presented at the first meeting I attended to work in my business immediately.”

Bill Dahm, President & CEO, Mike’s Express Carwash, Indianapolis, IN

“The Alliance has been an excellent resource for my firm.  The quality topics and speakers make the meetings a great get-away.  I come back to the office feeling refreshed with new ideas.  I have recently asked my COO to join as well.”

Membership

As a peer organization of business leaders,  Alliance members are chief decision-makers or co-decision makers of their companies.  Members may also be in transition for other leadership challenges, or have achieved successful career in other arenas.

To insure broad representation across business segments, Alliance membership is open to no more than two members from any one company and only one company for an industry segment.

Professional Development

A faculty facilitator coordinates quarterly meetings of the Alliance, each addressing current business issues and providing information and tools members can immediately put to use.  Presenters range from state and national business leaders to distinguished faculty from Indiana and national universities to Alliance members who share their own experiences.

By sharing experiences and lessons learned, Alliance members discover that they can achieve even greater success.  At breakout roundtable discussions, members of distinct industry segments can share their unique business concerns and solutions.

Peer Networking

Learning continues between formal meetings.  As members get to know one another by discussing common business concerns, individual friendships develop.  This camaraderie is an important benefit of Alliance membership.
